A LOOK BACK AT 2007

As we are on the verge of celebrating the countdown of the coming of 2008, or to some, the end of 2007, I believe that it is time for us here at talkoftoronto to recap the best of 2007 in our most biased opinions.

Enjoy.

BEST ALBUM

Since 2007 was such a slow year, and I honestly can't remember half the albums that even dropped this year, i'm going to have to say Kanye West - Graduation was the album of the year for me. Although it wasn't his best compilation of songs, and i'm sure he had more to choose from, it was consistent with Kanye, and for me that made all the difference. Still uses the samples, still witty with the punchlines, cocky and arrogant, this album gave the feel of HIS persona, and it shows that no matter how much "hood" we have in us, Kanye will always be the same. and for the record, if Lil Wayne actually dropped his album, I guarantee it would've been best album of the year.

BEST MOVIE

2007 actually proved to be quite the year for the film makers. With movies such as Spiderman 3, Transformers, American Gangster, Die Hard 4, Oceans 13, Superbad..... one movie stood out for me. I'd give "Fracture" my choice of movie of the year. I think this particular movie was underated in many aspects, but it was a well written movie. Starring Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins (who I also vote as 2007's scariest looking man award), it is a story about a man (Hopkins) who shoots his wife after he finds her cheating, and since he is a smart man, he basically commits the perfect murder. A lawyer (Gosling) is put on the case, but since he has just got a new job at a bigger firm, he is careless and loses the case. It is after a battle of wits that these two bump heads, and eventually escalates.

I'm not a movie reviewer, so that's a pretty broad summary of the situation. but it's better then it sounds...trust me.

BIGGEST FASHION TREND

After the succession of the Retro kids in NYC, retro has taken over, and it found a home in Toronto. Never has rope chains, old school kicks, and acid wash been so thriving in day to day life. Apart from retro, sneakerheads, and streetwear has to be the biggest trend to hit the city. But it goes hand in hand, because most of the sneakerheads dig retro, and most of the retro dudes are sneakerheads by day, and retro kids by night.

2007's CHOICE OF LIQUOR

Goes too........Grey goose. Everyone and your mother drinks this as of 2007. It has become a status icon, a man's most ballingest bottle (is that a word). But hey, at $100 a pop at Budo on Tuesdays, can you really hate on that?

2007's FUNNIEST MAN

Although technically unactive for the year, Dave Chappelle, you are the world's funniest man, 5 years in a row and counting. No explanations needed.

WEIRD..OR PURE TALENT?

This guy is singing a very famous song backwards...yes, he memorized it backwards. After they play it back in reverse, and its kind of eerie.
Can you guess what it is?

I could almost place my finger on it, but I just couldn't make it out in time...

ADDICTED TO TV

Santa was great to me this year since I actually received the one thing I wanted this year for Christmas- the complete seasons 1 and 2 of C.S.I.: Las Vegas.  I haven't had much free time yet, however every opportunity I get i've got my door closed and have been watching every episode beginning to end.  It is honestly the most addictive show I've ever seen, and I plan to collect every season because of that.  If you watch the show, i'm sure you'd appreciate where I'm coming from.  It's hard to put down once you've started.

Anyone want to donate me any newer seasons?

INTERNET LOUNGE

During my visit to MTL, being there made me realize how behind Toronto can be sometimes, technologically. We barely even have working wi-fi hotspots in most parts of the city, and those places that do, more then often charge it.

While we were there we were looking for an internet cafe to check some information over the net, and we discovered this upscale, more importantly free internet lounge on the 5th floor of the Eaton Center, fully equipped with about 10 iMacs.

Perfect for those artsy individuals, or if your just bored, cause if I lived there I probably wouldn't ever need to buy a computer.
